Noise

We call them probably what most call them.  “Duf Duf” cars.  Cars playing really loud music and a person hears and feels the bass before any other part of the song.  Music played like the instigator is doing the world a favour in sharing their taste in music.  The windows are down, the music is mostly unrecognisable, and the driver and passenger have their caps on backwards.
We mostly find what is being shared we would prefer was not shared.  What ever we were talking about is swamped by noise.  We were probably just about to solve all the world’s problems, then we are distracted and lose our train of thought.
The peace, (or relative peace of our blaring music) is shattered and mugged by the music that has arrived on the scene like it answered our distress call – though we never made one.   What we were thinking about or discussing changes.  No longer are we pondering and stroking our beards (which is really hard for girls to do when they do not have one).  It is like a black hole  has driven up next to us and resistance to being sucked into their vortex is useless.
We normally discuss something really loudly and then make sure all windows are up.  The sound may be less, but the thumping of the bass remains.  Fortunately, at that point, the lights change and the car with the music speeds off.  Leaves us in their wake.  Beats us.  They obviously have somewhere important to be right now.  They no doubt resent the next set of lights we join them at, at a more leisurely pace.
Still, there is a good chance that whatever we were talking about we are not talking about now.  We have gone on to something else, and the world remains in turmoil.  That is trouble with noise.  It can be really distracting.
At one place I lived, I had a neighbour who would play his car music in the front yard while he worked in the back.  I could not hear my stereo within three paces of my location, due to the loudness of what was coming from next door. I am ok with such a thing occasionally, but every day is a bit much.
Where I am now the neighbour has moved.  We got on well with him but sometimes he would get drunk and play music at night.  We actually did not mind what he played and sometimes sang along.
I do like to give matters some thought but find it really hard competing with stuff I never asked for.  Where I can, I retreat.  It depends on what I want most.  I can give up and go with the flow if I want.  But when I know the flow leads to a large rapid, I will get out of it.  Local knowledge.
My head has heaps of input areas.  I can shut off one channel and use others when I want to.  I find I am most creative when I use the channels of my choosing.  I may use something that I hear.  It’s my choice.  I do not think I have ever used what I heard from a duf duf car though.
