It is good that guys are good for some things.  We are useful for reaching high places and dealing with yucky stuff.  When we have dog sat, I have taken it on myself to deal with the dog droppings each morning.  I would always have two bags over my hand and when I had finished, I tied the bags off and binned them.  I know Merril would have done it, but girls have other superpowers.  Guys are also useful for going ahead to make sure there is nothing like toads lurking.  Especially at night.
I must confess there is some self-interest here. I always turn on a light.  I like to see what is in front of me too.  I do not have a problem with toads, but I need to make sure there is nothing like a snake on the path (I remember in Townsville, when I was a kid, approaching the house in semi darkness in bare feet and a centipede running straight over my foot.)
I do make sure the light is on in the car port too at night.  For the same reason.  Approaching the car in darkness when I do not need to, is a silly idea to me.  There has never been a time when something confronted me, but to me, “just in case” deals with something before the event, rather than after it.
One time I was sitting where I normally sit during the day and a huge spider emerged - maybe two inches from me.  I moved pretty quick.  It was important to me that I put some distance between the spider and me.
Maybe if that was night and I had no light, I would have been unaware of it.  They say what you don’t know won’t hurt you.  I do not reckon that.  For me it is a classic case of not knowing does not mean it is not there.  In darkness it could have bitten me, and I could have swelled up and died.  Actually, I doubt it would have been that dramatic, but something else could have had that effect if there were no intervention.
I am really glad to be able to turn a light on.  When it is dark, at the very least my progress is slowed.  There maybe nothing to get me, but I feel my way.  Maybe bats can see in the dark, but I cannot.
Like everyone I have tried to function in both.  No doubt about it, I do better in light.
