New Beginning

It is getting lighter earlier.  The reason that comes to mind is I was listening to a song that said, I’m waiting for dawn.  Know the feeling.  Things are becoming visible earlier.  Take our new shed for instance.  Yes, we have a new shed.  It was not that long ago that I would not have known it was there at 5:45 am.  Now it is like, “what’s that?  It is hard to make out, but it looks like a new shed.”
Going on 20 years ago, I saw a card that had words I have never forgotten.  I told someone else and they have not forgotten it either.  I think I must have gotten it, though I do not remember the occasion.  “Sunset in one place is sunrise in another.”
New days tend to happen even when I do not want them to.  I do mostly look forward to them though, as it means I can put away the past.  Not that I always want to.  A good holiday I want to go on and on.  For holidays, we used to rent a place in Noosa.  We absolutely loved it.  I remember extending our stay there.  Our next holiday in Maroochydore will be the longest we have ever had there.  We love it.  Never want it to end.
One time the newspaper said the fish are biting there (near where we stay).  Boy were they biting.  I have tried many times since, and apart for the occasional catch, I spend a lot of time admiring the scenery.  I love fishing but it always seems to me to be at best an exercise in hope.
At the other extreme is when I say, “I’m glad that’s over.”  Tends to happen when I face a test or need to perform.  I look forward to them, but don’t look forward to them.  Though if it is a test, I only look forward to it being over.
That could be the gist of what William Arthur Ward meant when he said, “Change, like sunshine, can be a friend or a foe, a blessing or a curse, a dawn or a dusk.”  Whether I look forward to it or not, there is one thing the dawn can herald.  Change.  It can prompt dread, if this is the day my misdemeanours come home to roost, or it could produce joy, in the holiday has finally arrived.
I may have known real success, but I cannot rest on my laurels.  I may have failed big time, but I’m only a failure if I fail to get up after the knock down.
Either way there will be consequences.  But no matter what the consequence I can decide for the best any time.  Dawn is that time for me, but anytime is the right time.  George Cecil said a bit of a downer by saying, “On the plains of hesitation bleach the bones of countless millions who, at the dawn of decision, sat down to wait, and waiting died.”
I sorta like to turn that around.  “The plains of resoluteness are empty as countless millions decided to move on.”  Not as pretty, but it works for me.
