My dad lived until he was 97.  The longer I live the more remarkable I find that in that he seemed so fit and active until the end.  There were things he needed to careful of, but that did not stop him.  I remember him saying he wanted to learn the piano at about 90.
By the same token I remember being told my mum’s dad died sixth months after he retired.  It was like he had nothing to look forward to.  He did but he could not think of anything.  On lived in the light of ne things while the other could not imagine anything new.
I was considering new things this morning.  We went to a different shopping centre today.  We could have gone to the familiar but new was more attractive to us.  I fould a good shop in there that I like a lot.  It was only in pursuing the new something attractive was discovered.
It happened by accident to me one time in Melbourne.  I overshot my stop and had to walk back.  On the way I discovered a shop that I really liked.  It definitely would not have happened but for overshooting.
I reckon it is the new that keeps us young.  Our body can and will age.  There is nothing that can be done about that though it does not stop some trying.  Though from what I have seen and heard someone who is dissatisfied with some feature finds another to be dis-satisfied with when the first is fixed.
The saying “old before there time” seems to come about often when a person stops growing and looking for new things.
There are times when I say hold it right there and retreat and assimilate what is new but that is not the end of the story.  I want to be experiencing new things until it is time to go.  That can be hard.  The familiar is definitely easier to handle.  I have been there done that.
The new always contains the chance of failure.  It is going out on a limb.  It may be learning from what I did wrong until I get it right.  A few times getting it right is always good for my self esteem and then I move on.
I may not use what I got right for a while but it comes back quickly.  We noticed that with table tennis payers.  You can see who has got it right in the past.  Certainly to start with they are rusty but what has been learned comes to the fore.
I think I am going to have to try a new spot for my fishing. Hardly getting a bite does not make me feel good about myself.  Sure I enjoy the surroundings and the people but I enjoy it even more when I catch fish.
Thank you to those who have suggested dynamite.  I do not have any and the explosion would be sure to attract unwanted attention.
Still, I reckon dad is teaching me stuff even if it is years since I saw him.  I liked that he was young at heart.  I do not want to stop learning new things.  I know it can be hard but it is worth it.
