I read something said by Carl Jung this morning and boy does it resonate with me.  He said, “the world will ask you who you are, and if you don’t know, the world will tell you.”
That is a sentiment I so agree with.  I feel like life asks me questions all the time.  Dylan sang, “there ain’t no neutral ground.”
I have often likened human neutrality to treading water when the tide is going out.  It may look like I am maintaining my position, little realizing that the tide is going out the whole time and I am further from shore than I was.
I am all for informed rational choices, and I will not rush into something based only on a whim or hunch.  But I am for making choices.  I want to be very much for something or against it.  I reckon somewhere in the middle is the ground of manipulation (I am not talking about gravitating to extremism, just deciding for myself rather than having decisions made for me.)
Undecided is a position that can be maintained until a decision is needed.  Whether I like it or not, there comes a time when it is decision time.  Staying in the middle is to me the place to be used, perhaps unwillingly by the powers that be.  I may declare my independence, but it is only independence within the framework of the powers that be.  Whenever they want to, the powers that be can do with me as they will.
The same may be true of those who willingly, knowingly and lawfully oppose them. but I would rather go down fighting, that go down asking what just happened here and why?
To me there is no middle ground to live in.  It is one thing to be there until I choose who I am going to serve, but if I make no decision then like Jung says the world will tell me who I am.  The decision will be made for me.
