Need Each Other

Something happened which reminded me of what seems to be the topic of the moment.  Toilet paper.
I along with many have been agog at what I have seen.  Often things like this are just a tv thing, but a visit to the supermarket shows me it is not.  I am not used to rows of empty shelves in supermarkets.  I was sitting outside the supermarket and so many people went by with a packet.  It seemed totally out of proportion to what normally is seen.
We are responsible for helping maintain a public toilet.  I was incredulous when a visit revealed all toilet paper was gone.  It would just be funny if the normally programming was not affected.
What got me thinking was I needed to change a roll.  No biggy in the normal course of events, but it has never seemed like such a precious commodity.  Still it needed changing.  It made me consider the fact that even the most powerful in the land has to do it.  Sometimes it can be seen as a “that is beneath me” thing and left for others.  I do remember someone at work saying to me that leaving anything that needs to be done is to say someone else can do that.  My thinking is we are all in this together.  Lightening the load for each other helps.
I remember someone interviewed on tv who was rich and powerful.  Their comment was I have cleaned a few toilets in my time.
I admit I did like that.  It seems to me the most effective leaders are the ones who have been there, done that, and understand the plight of others.  It is not necessarily a “stay there forever” thing, but it is always a “doing it well” thing.  That goes for any task I have.
The way I look at is, I am not superman (I know I know that is news to you.  Just as an aside I am finding there are less and less places for me to get changed since Telstra has been phasing out telephone booths).  I need you and you need me.
When I have take-away or go to a restaurant, I need the person or people to be able to cook.  Our area we sit outside is enclosed.  We needed someone who could do that.  All these things we can do, but for others is their main thing.  There is a profit motive and there needs to be, but it is just utilizing a skill.
Self-sufficiency is good, but it only goes so far.  People try to live off the grid, but I have seen no case where someone did not need someone else.  Even if it is just petrol to drive a motor vehicle.  Anyway, I do not want to live in the dark ages.
When video’s first came out it was noticed people were staying at home.  It was also noticed that it was not long before the herd mentality took over again, and people were congregating.  Why is the Corona virus seen as such a threat?  There are many reasons, but one is the isolation thing.  We will do it when it is in everyone’s best interests that we do, but it goes against the grain.  We want to congregate.  We need each other.
Needing each other is not confined to the shared experience of public gatherings to watch the footy.  Your skill is my need.
