Mulch

The sound of mulching was heard in the land.  Today was the day.  We really could not put it off any longer.  It was supposed to happen yesterday, but we vegged instead.  I had a hope today would be a write off.  The weather report at said so much rain it might be a good idea to be inside with a good book – or someone who had just read one.  Actually, they did not say that last part.
What I was not ready for was the weather report changing.  It did.  It was a beautiful day.  Not a shower in sight.  There went my excuse.
Merril was on the mulcher.  I was to dig out trees we wanted to get rid of.  Turned out they had really thick bases.  One I could remove totally.  The others are all but small images of their former selves.  I gave it away after I had dug and soaked, and the things still would not move.
I am thinking of getting my neighbour with his chain saw.  He seems really keen to use it.  I want to help him achieve his goal.
What we were wanting to do was mulch the garden bed with a heap of trees we had cut back.  When I say a heap, I mean enough to arouse the curiosity of those on the space station to zoom in for a closer look.  We had it piled on our second driveway.  We could not park there, and neither could anyone else.
Just being there was disturbing our resident Little Wattle Bird.  He visited every now and then to see what was going on.  I guess he was interested as when all is said and done he has to live there.
Having abandoned the trees, I cleaned up around our letter box.  I could not believe how the plants had crept to the point of taking over.  I was impressed though.  They did not do it suddenly.  It was change by stealth.  I had not noticed.  There was now only a tiny little area to check the letter box.  The plants had crept across the rest.
There is no longer only a tiny little area.  I can now check the letter box without feeling like I am with David Attenborough in the middle of Borneo somewhere identifying new species.
Merril mulched.  The mulching made a dent but by 5.30 we had had enough.  What was left of the pile was put to one side of the driveway.  I blower vaced what I could off the drive and onto the garden bed.  Seemed ok there.  A leaf on dirt feels right.
We watched tv, had dinner and went to bed.  Going to bed sounds like an easy thing when it is said quickly.  It does not convey how we each felt like we were about 300 years old and going from one room to another enabled us to take in so much we would miss in our haste.
