Motivation

It is a bit of a theme of mine, but I have been considering it again this morning.  What someone is, is what comes naturally.
There is a guy I know and I have never seen it as clearly.  He just gets in and does what needs to be done.  There is no umming and arring.  No debate.  No needing to be asked.  He just does it.  When he does not know he asks so he will not need to ask again.  There is no need to finish off what he started.  What he starts he finishes.
I know others like that too.  But for others I would not have a clue.  It is not for want of trying, or watching to try and figure something out.  It is just I see nothing that says someone is a certain way.  They are good at various things, but I cannot see what motivates.
I know what motivates me.  It is not like I decided on something and went for it despite myself.  I am just a certain way inclined.  I can do many other things, but I guess it is like a water channel.  Left to myself I just naturally head in a certain direction.  Who I am does not make me better than someone else, but it does make me different to someone else.
Those who know me know I am big on getting me right.  I will endeavour to help if help is sought, but not at the expense of me.  I know I am often stretched and what I do may not be my first choice, but I know it is best for me.  I so often think what is the point of trying to solve another’s problems and not solving my own.  Besides, solving my own equips me better.
I have often wondered about the effectiveness of such a view.  There are confrontational people and that is definitely sometimes needed.  While I have always been willing to call a spade a spade, I have spent more time on what the spade is used for, than the spade itself.
I figure that who I am will become obvious from what I say and do.  I do what I do, to prove it for myself.  Perhaps another will think, “that works” and give it a go.
I am fond of saying I am a “hard hat area.”  So often I see people visiting a site wearing a hard hat, goggles and a vest.  Figuratively I reckon people need to be wearing that around me.  I will never plan to do bad stuff but it can happen.  I feel better if others are protected.
I am a work in progress.  I love others but my love will be incredibly limited if I neglect me.
