Morning Show

We very much try to make our yard a poison free environment.  We want birds and insects to feel as comfortable as possible in this place.  We do not have a cat or dog because as much as possible we do not want the native wildlife to feel threatened if they are wandering about the yard.
One of our neighbours has a cat which sometimes comes into our yard.  It knows it is not welcome here, but it also knows I am not around 24/7.  If I see it, I send it home.  If I do not see it, I sometimes see the result of its hunting with feathers galore lying around the yard.
It was attacked by another neighbours dog that escaped from its yard.  The cat disappeared for a while.  I told the neighbour although I was not fond of cats, I had never wanted to see one as much in my life.  It returned and life returned to normal.
It is my custom to feed the birds in the morning.  There is one that would tap its beak on the screen to let me know it wants to be fed.  I do not encourage that, so I arise from my seat and head towards it.  It decides it has something else to do at that point.
When it flies up onto a pot plant, I let it know that is acceptable able and go get it food.  It waits for me and I am wrapped of late how close it gets to me while I am putting the food into a bowl.
It is a trust thing.  It knows I will let it know who is boss, but I love it.  It must be happy with the arrangement as my behaviour to it is one of acceptance.  I feel like the bird is a mate.
A flock of Indian Minors has taken up residence and I am trying to work out how to get rid of them.  I am definitely not cruel to them as although they are not native, and I would prefer them not to be here, I do not blame them personally that their ancestors arrived.
We also have Corella’s visit.  They are native to Western Australia but someone must have let a few loose over here.  Now there are many of them   Other birds come and go.  No one messes with the Lorikeets as their beaks are formidable.
We have a resident Peewee we call “the mad peewee.”  He loves to fly a few feet from his perch and then fly back again.  Over and over.  And when we park the Rav 4 in the yard, he flies to it and lands on the windscreen.  There is no grip, so he slides down it.  He never learns.  He does that over and over too.
All in all, I am entertained by going on of the bird’s as I sit and write and pause to watch them.
