What is the world coming to!  As Bob Dylan sang, “funny how things never turn out the way you had em planned, the only thing we knew about Henry Porter was that his name wasn’t Henry Porter.”  Merril and I did not get our customary nap today!
It was a full-on day.  Merril is selling her home in Michi and we were there doing stuff.  Merril is upstairs doing painting stuff and I am downstairs.  I was working on the tool area.  It involved moving bricks.  I thought “this must be what hell is like with no end in sight.”  Fortunately, I had an end in sight, but it was hard work.
Before we started though, we went to breakfast with Merrils dad, her sister Kathleen and her nephew Ben.  It was great to catch up with all of them.
We had breaky at Merrils dads (Brian) bowls club.  Brian was President of that bowls club and he has done some really smart things.  Many bowls clubs are going backwards, but this is a really “now” club.  All he did was to generate income for the club.  Boy does it look like it succeeded.
It featured a revolutionary score board.  A guy who came up with it needed a club to trial it at.  Brian gave the ok, and it is desirable enough that it could be embraced worldwide.
They have two state of the art bowling greens under cover.  How state of the art?  Bowlers come from far a field to play it (like Sydney).  For the first time ever, I saw a laser light that travels the length of the cover to keep the birds off.  It must be working because the cover looked pristine.
Ben, Merrils nephew, is a real product of his generation.  He has worked in Egypt and India.  He got his degree in Holland and is looking for a job in China.  His girlfriend is Dutch and speaks a number of languages.
Kathleen is Bens mum.  She is one smart lady.  It was really interesting to see the dynamic between mother and son.  Ben is loved and it is easy to see why.
Breakfast was great.  The food and company were really good.  Merril and I were happy to linger because of the company, but we also knew what awaited us.  Eventually we went to the house and started work.
I must confess we were zombie like by the end.  Merril had to play table tennis.   I go up and support her.  Last night I did it from afar.  A guy told me about his hospital experience.  He was told by a doctor he had a serious heart condition.  Later when he mentioned his name he was told “oh, it is not you.”  That has got to be a recipe for feeling good then feeling bad then feeling good again.
I really like the table tennis people even though they seem to think that just because I have a go at them, it is ok to have a go at me.  A guy who had seen some of my posts said he wondered about my mental state sometimes – “in a nice way.”  Surely that has to be a first.  Another guy is growing German lettuce and he knows they are German because they come up speaking it.  Yeah right.  Does he think I came down in the last shower when it was actually the one before that?
I am always up early, but Merril was too today as she is taking her dad to the doctors – about his heart.
