Merril's Place

Merril’s house has sold.  We were impressed.  It really did not seem to be on the market for that long.  Admittedly it was longer than we wanted.  We did wonder if the agent knew what he was doing when our simplest of ideas was received like it was something that had never occurred to him before.  But it seems all was a part of his clever plan.
On open house day 33 groups went through.  The average is 15.  It was really important to us that our asking price was reasonable.  The agent said it was.  We were not asking too little or too much.  Judging by what we see on some shows people sometimes ask too much.  It seems to be common that in selling something people want top dollar and in buying something people want a bargain.  The fact of the matter seems to be though, people will only pay what the market is paying.  Sometimes the price is a bargain, while mostly it is in the range expected.
Merril got around the price she was asking.  That is a good thing.  We are pleased to move on, but there is a certain amount of nostalgia too.
That place was Merril’s home for a number of years.  It was not fancy, but it was solid and in a good location.  It served her well.  I had many a meal there and have lots of good memories of it.  I also have some not so good memories too.
Merril took delivery of two cubic meters of crusher dust.  It is not like mulch.  It was solid and heavy.  It was for her driveway.  What made things worse was her car was behind the gravel and it had to be shifted for the car to be gotten out.
It was done.  It was hard work but it happened.  Unbeknown to me though Merril had had chest pains for quiet a while.  She saw her doctor who sent her to the specialist and within 10 minutes she was being wheeled into surgery to have a stent put in.  She was told one more day could have been fatal.  Too much excitement I reckon.
I also remember her getting who we dubbed “doggey brothers” to fix her roof.  They found a brown snake while doing it.  They said it is in that box if you want a look at it.  It was not there.  Their comment “it must have escaped.”
I tended to be a garden person.  I would mow and remember working on the front garden.  Thankfully things were an improvement.  I tried not to stay still like a garden gnome for too long.  Though some garden gnomes get to travel the world.  I think I stood still for too long here once.  A willy wag tail landed on my head.  My subsequent movement meant he did not stay long.
They are just some of my memories of Merril’s place.  Merril would have a heap of her own.  After we married she had her sister and brother in law in the house for a number of years.
All that is history now.  The place is sold.
