Meekness

A lot of people seem to associate weakness with meekness.  While it would not be true to say nothing could be further from the truth, it does, to me, seem a long way from it.
The Free Dictionary gives the flowing definitions. Meek:  Showing patience and humility: gentle.  Weak: liable to break or give way under pressure; easily damaged
To me weakness is saying I can’t, while meekness is saying I won’t.  Meekness does not mean I do not have the ability to do something, it is having the ability but choosing not to use it.
More than once I have wanted to put someone in their place.  I can have a great comeback (I’m talking like four days later) that would put an end to the matter in dispute.  But because I can, does not mean I have to.  As in all things, I have a choice.  Often saying what I think causes more trouble than is warranted.
The saying “the pen is mightier than the sword” is only true to me if the place with the pen has a strong defence.  The whole deterrence thing was built on the fact that we can touch you, but choose not to.  Nothing is more vulnerable than a defenceless state.  We have seen in times past a nation stronger than another walk in and take what they want.
To me, weakness is undesirable.  I have never heard anyone proclaim, “if only I was weaker.”  Meekness on the other hand to me is something to be lauded.  It is having the capacity but choosing not to use it.  That to me takes strength.
For somethings I advocate overwhelming opposition.  For other things I don’t.  Just because I can, does not mean I have to.
Many of the cars we have, have a speed limit of a couple of hundred miles an hour.  Apart from our laws saying we cannot use it, it is just handy to have to help get out of trouble.  I can but I choose not to.  I used to own a 69 Corella.  One time I was overtaking a car.  There was an oncoming vehicle.  It is true what they say about your whole life flashing before you.  I did not know if I had the capacity to make it.  The extra power meant I did (but I guess the fact I am sitting here writing this says that too).  It is a “I can, but most of the time I chose not to” thing.
Sometimes it seems choosing to can be my undoing to.  Apart from the possibility of destroying personal relationships, I can come undone choosing to use something I should not.
A former neighbour had a you bute car used at weddings.  It was powerful.  I know nothing about cars, but on this one when a switch was flicked it took it to another dimension of power.  He sold it to a young fella in Cairns.  The last time he spoke to him the young fella had crashed it.  He chose to use the power he had and came undone.
Meekness to me is a great quality to have.  Choice is always good.  It is not just the fact that I have a choice, but the choices I make, that are winners or losers.  I think meekness really is a good choice and a peacemaker.  It is built not on weakness, but on strength.
