Market

This markets thing is different. I have done it once before but not at the crack of dawn. I had packed last night, but realized after I had finished I had not included chairs to sit on. They were in one of sheds we call the studio. I had to get them while it was still dark in the morning. I took a light because I did not walk into something lurking.

There was nothing lurking though, so I got the camping chairs. One was buried way deeper than I though, but after a bit of noise and effort I got it out.

I had been up at the crack of dawn. No, dawn had not even cracked (truth is, I have never heard the dawn crack). But it was early. The markets start at 6am and go to 12 noon.

It was still dark when we arrived. Merril assisted with putting up the marquee. Though a guy called Jason next door helped too and he seemed like a real old hand. It was up in no time. We did discover one of the leg holders was missing which meant a corner would not stay up until we used a stick to keep it in place for the duration of the event. We will need to remember to take something to put in the hole each time.

The site costs $25 a morning to hire. It is only after reaching $25 that any thing is profit. We made $2.50 at the most.

The guy in the marquee next door said there was less kids than normal. Pity really, as I had a number of kids toys. We did sell one toy. Though the kid did not realize mum had bought it. He put it back. Mum retrieved it. We also sold a small heater, a wicker basket and a few other things.

One guy did turn up to help. He arrived really early and stayed the whole time. I really appreciated that. The company was good and there were a number of people who came by that we knew. We had a good chat. One I knew from table tennis, one I cannot even remember how we met, and others were from our church.

Merril left did cleaning. I had done what I had to do as far as cleaning went, the night before. The place we clean had been cleared for a birthday party.

When we packed up I took a couple of tables back and met the people organizing the party. We are expecting a call later which will be out catalyst to go and set up for the Sunday.

It was an interesting day. I did not make much but I got to meet some people. As far as I am concerned it was a start and I know how it all works now. The equipment was tested and now the process can be more seamless next time. The 6 hours went very fast.
