Marching to Chaos

I was thinking about the various forms of governments around the world and the term “marching to chaos” seemed to fit.
I take pride (and rightly so it seems) in democracy, yet to me it is a flawed form of government.  At best it has a limited term wherein those in power can render chaos, and at worst it seems to me people cede unlimited control to the one in power.  That to me is a big mistake.  The benign leader in control now, does not guarantee one down the track will be the same.
I make no claim as to the rightness of the wrongness of the person, but recently, one in power of a nuclear nation, who made me nervous.  As an ad. rightly stated for me, there is good in bad people, and bad in good people.
But that is nothing compared to what we are seeing in one country now.   Another form of government gained control of a country with access to a nuclear arsenal.  The leader appears to now be the personification of evil.  They are bent on destruction.  People are pawns.
In a third form of government originally everyone wanted to be their friend.  It seemed they were opening up.  They were like a sponge absorbing everything the West had to offer.  But now there is another leader who has asked for and received an unlimited term, and power rather than people seems to be the driving force.
The list of things to be potentially nervous about keeps growing.  Maybe I should not be surprised, but it seems the everyday person suffers the most a result of bad decisions by those in power.
There seems to be a lot of manoeuvring in the first instant to get people onside.  A mantra seems to be “keep the people happy and distracted,” and the leader can seemingly do what they like.
Some governments do not even make that pretence.  They seize control and insist on their way no matter the cost.  It is imperative they have like-minded people with power around them, and they are free to make hay.
Often the best sort of government is needed to create the worst sort of government.  In so many cases a person could not rise to power without the people being on their side.  What is created is to me, freedom in a cage.  It seems the people are free to do what they will within the confines set for them.
It sounds morose and hopeless.  History has shown that man left to himself is bent on destruction.  As a friend of mine has stated, “the best form of government is a benign dictator.”  That is where my hope lies.  With one who has my best interests at heart, but has the power to quell any and every rebellion.
