Making the most of time

There is no doubt about it.  The sun is getting up later.  It was at one time it was light at 4.30am.  Not much light mind.  But light.  Now it is after 5am.
One consolation though - it is cooler a the moment.  I probably have not had many really hot days this year but the ones I had were in my opinion really hot.
It occurred to me this morning that the fact the sun is getting up later may be a metaphor of my life.  I have less time of light.  Still plenty I would say.  But less than I had.  I remember a mate of mine had gotten together with me for table tennis and said, “I know the time ahead of me is less than the time before.”  That came out of the blue for me but has stuck with me. (bit like something I read that said the oldest picture of you is also the youngest.  Say what?)
It is a fact of life.  There is nothing I can do to change that I know.  I can though attempt to make the most of my time – whatever that may look like?
No matter what it is, things change on a day to day basis, but there is an overarching thing I would like to achieve.  Like today.  I had planned to listen to something I need to write down (minutes of meeting), have a rest (I always try to do that) and mow when it is cooler this afternoon.  But it is raining.  The mowing may or may not happen later today.  I may need to schedule it for a different time.  Whenever it is, it will happen.
Something like that may be out of left field (or right field.  One things for sure though a field is involved with mowing) but it is a part of an overarching plan.  I really want to help those who cannot help themselves.  It is a me thing.  I know it is right for me.  To me it does not matter what I would rather do in the short term (maybe sleep and veg)  I can do that for sure.  It is always my choice.  But my choice is to do what helps achieve my overarching plan.  I know sometimes that can seem inconvenient or it is something I would rather leave than take.
But one thing remains true for me.  I do not want to go from thing to thing in a buckshot way.  I want to go from thing to thing in a purposeful way.  What I have to do may be diverse, but it is never meaningless.
