Lunch

Merril and I are not good travellers on Christmas day.  The highway is like a car park at lunch time.  We do however celebrate Christmas with others before the day.
That is what we did yesterday.  We had some other things we wanted to get done as well, so we left early.  Turned out it is just as well.  We had decided it was the right time to take my car for a run.  We had heard it was having more trouble starting.  We thought a run would do it good. 
I moved the car into position, and we loaded it.  Merril’s car was behind mine and could go nowhere.  My car would not start.  We have a charger, but it was on loan.  What to do?  We had Christmas lunch packed and could go nowhere. 
Turned out the neighbour came to our aide.  He was outside and responded immediately to our call for help.  He brought his car around and some jumper leads.  After some manoeuvring ,we used his car to start mine.  I was able to move my car and we took Merril’s.  I started mine in the afternoon when we got back and ran it for a few hours.  A new battery is in order.
We had a trip planned to a bookstore before lunch.  It is such a dangerous place to visit as even if Merril and I are getting stuff for others, we invariably buy books for ourselves.  There was nothing different.
We finished and were right on time for our lunch.  I enjoy Christmas lunches but I have never had one where the balance felt so right.  We had the traditional ham and chicken and other goodies.  Merril had made little tarts for dessert with cream, custard and fruit salad.  Prawns arrived later and we had them for dinner.
All in all a good day.  Not without drama, but all things worked out well.
