Love

Love can be a weird thing.  Beats the alternative every time I think.  I think I could handle a continual state of love.  I do not know I could handle a continual state of war though.
It seems though sometimes war is necessary.  Sounds strange to me.  Yet I think the quickest way for me to be bound is to accept anything that comes along.  I can’t.  Sometimes my anything wants to do me in.  What is totally weird is I think sometimes war is an expression of love.  If I am fighting for love, then it is worth it to me.
I honestly have my doubts about the hippy love.  “Peace man” “make love not war.”  Incredibly noble sentiments, but it can allow those with an alternative agenda free reign.  It was said in Caesars time, give the people shelter and food and keep them entertained.  That was all that was needed for the people to be distracted.  Others could do what they chose.
I am a terrible chess player, but sometimes I am working on something.  My clever plan.  All the while the opponent was working on their clever plan.  It was cleverer than mine.  Before I knew it I was check mated.  Nothing I could do when that happened.  Too late.  Game over.  Sorta like love to me.  If I am not careful I can be trapped and it is check mate.
For some it seems love and war are mutually exclusive.  War could never be seen as an expression of love.  Yet I only need to look at married life to know that love is more than a nice feeling.  It is that, but it is more.  Sometimes I do not get my way and I really want it.  I only need to live with another to discover I am not the centre of the universe.  One thing I have found though is that the right resolution always makes love stronger.
To me love is more than a nice feeling only.  Some drugs produce a nice feeling as I head to destruction.  I can have a nice feeling but to me it is the expression in action of that nice feeling that makes love real.  A nice feeling is a great start but to me that is all it is – a start.  Someone once said, love is a doing word.
I know I am a novice or an apprentice when it comes to love.  Sometimes my patience wears thin.  I can limit my kindness to those who are just kind to me.  A part of me can be jealous when good things happen to someone else.  My response might be all smiles, but I can be thinking that should be me.
It is a bit sad how I remember animated stories.  Like Sarge towards the end of Cars saying how he could feel the love.  I reckon I know the power of something when it is removed.  I have seen in history what happens when love is not the motivation.  I reckon that right now if love was removed then basically this world would go mad.  Neighbour would be set against neighbour at the slightest thing.  I reckon the roads would not be a place I wanted to be.  Right now though, there is heaps of it about. 
I may just be studying Love 101 and have a really skewed perspective, but the road I’m on is a good place to be I reckon.
