Losing is Winning

Something did not seem right.  I was singing a song but I was sure I had gotten the words wrong.  Somehow “may my right arm sing to you,” did not seem right.  Turned out it was not.  It said, “may my life song sing to you.”
At least I had a right arm.  I was looking for an appropriate picture for “loss” when we lost the State of Origin match.  I did not find anything to post, but I was amazed at the different kinds of loss covered.
There was lost opportunity, or loss of hearing, or loss of a loved one, or financial loss, to name a few.  The loss of hearing one actually reminded me of something I read recently.  A guy thought his wife was losing her hearing.  So from 10 meters behind her he asked “can you hear me sweet heart?”  No reply.  So he went 5 meters behind her and asked the same question.  No reply.  So he went right up to her ear and from behind asked “can you hear me now honey?  She replied, “for the third time yes.”
I do not think I am losing my hearing, but I sure can mishear.  I guess repeating what someone said back also serves the purpose of finding out if my hearing is any good as well.
As the saying goes, we often learn more from a loss than a win.  But loss is not something I seek.  I like to accumulate wins.  In table tennis though that is getting harder and harder.
But I do know something for sure.  A loss for me often recalibrates.  It is never pleasant, but I so often gain so much.  I definitely prefer a win but a loss without doubt teaches.  It may be just how not to do something, but I take that with me into my future.
A song I love says “losing is winning when it turns you around, it all looks clearer when you’re close to the ground”.
There have been times I have found what I lose was a distraction.  At the time it may not have seemed so.  It was what I concentrated on, and made my number one.  Only when number one is gone can it be replaced with another number one.
For me that can be healthy.  Not pleasant, but healthy.
I am a guy.  I like to win.  Yet even the winningest person suffers loss.  It is inevitable and the lot of everyone.  Yet to me even a loss can be a win.  For me that is like a “go figure” thing.
