Looking Out for Others

One of the motto’s is to treat others the way I would like to be treated.  It seems to me that doing that is safe for me, and safe for others.
I tend to look out for others that way.  I want the best for another person, as I know I want the best for me.  I often say no one cares about you as much as you.  It is why I often recommend people get a second opinion about something.  As there is no doubt in my mind I am invested in me.  Someone else may be invested in getting to the end of the day as quickly as possible.
Merril and I prefer not to book jobs at the end of the day, or just prior to the week end if we can help it.  It is human nature to want to see the end of something when a time of freedom or the casting off of normal responsibilities occurs.  To us, we are at our most vulnerable at that time.
Some things cannot be helped and we do something when it needs doing.  It’s ironic though that if something of ours is going to break down, or one of us gets particularly unwell, it  often happens just prior to the week-end.  The best-case scenario is waiting until after the week end to put in a call.  The worst case is needing to go to hospital knowing that I will be stabilized and then (as few doctors are on duty n the week end) the specialist sees me the Monday.  Often I will spend the whole week-end waiting.
But I do know that I need to be looking out for myself.  If I am fortunate others will be diligently looking out for me to.  If not, I know I will need to do the right thing by myself to ensure the right thing is done.
It seems though one of the things I need to guard against most is resentment.  I find it can so easily get a foot hold.  If I perceive the wrong thing has been done to me then I spend time praying and seeing a best-case scenario unfold for that person.  Resentment to me needs to be jettisoned from my life as soon as possible.  Otherwise it can grow and destroy me.
So I will always try to do the right thing by another and myself.  But it sure has its challenges.
