Looking for love in all the wrong places

There is a way things happen on tv that has been standing out to me more of late.  It is not something I have looked for, but now that I am I notice it very clearly.
So much of what is reported via any media outlet is designed to produce fear.  Media is covering the worst of human behaviour.  I think there is a place for it and being for-warned is being for fore-armed.  Yet I do think what is majored on actually represents a small part of the whole.  Yet if a visitor arrived with no preconceived ideas, they would get the impression things are really bad.
I was talking with someone the other day that had come from a different country.  I had said I think we have it pretty good, and he made a strong point of how good we have it.  I guess in a lot of cases it is a matter of comparison.  Someone else said to me recently that if we were in many places, we would realize how good we do have it.
Yet it seems in the media the world over, inadequacies are reported in a disproportionate amount.  Media figures bad news sells.  The whole aim seems to be to win ratings.
That appears to dovetail into something else that occurred to me this morning.  Depravity is insatiable.  There is no doubt in my mind that things are getting worse.  Yet to me that should come as no surprise.  Night follows day and a person not on a good diet suffers for it.  With the diet we are being fed it is no wonder society shows signs of ill health.
The thing for me about it is that we may be being fed a bad diet but because depravity is insatiable, in an attempt to satisfy, we will get more and more and it will become worse and worse.  Reality tv shows will increasingly attempt to shock to keep the ratings high.  Hunger Games will no longer be fiction but fact.  It happened in Roman times.   Today’s TV may reflect society – but the worst of society.
The point for me is that so much of what we are seeing produces fear in the general populace.  To me it hides what mankind should be really afraid of.  Fearful events are unfolding but constant exposure to fear produces immunity.
Fear controls.  To me the day is coming, and is now seen in part, when genuine fear will be called for.  Those that control such events will cease to control such events and we will witness a world out of control.  In that day, as is the case now, the answers given will be band-aide solutions to terminal conditions.   The difference will be that they will be seen to be inadequate.
There is hope and always has been.  Mankind has been looking for love in all the wrong places.
