They say “a burden shared is a burden halved.”  Just as well it works like that too I reckon.  I would not like for it to be “a burden shared, is a burden doubled.” I think it would stop me going there.
I really like the sharing the load thing.  Sometimes my workload is manageable, but when someone offers to help, it can make a world of difference.  As I have mentioned, recently we got carpet for our shed.  We could have done it, but the cavalry arrived and we were very thankful.
What’s the saying “take a load off..” It is a great feeling when someone I know and trust, offers to help me.   As I say, things can be managed, but someone else assisting makes a world of difference, and allows me to either do something better, or do something more.
I am big though, on taking a break. I have experienced being obsessive about something, and being on it night and day.  I really do question its value though.  So often I have found that if I am at something without a break like for eleven days, I question if I could have gotten the same amount done in ten days if I had had a break.  For me personally I know I need a break.  I need to walk away and have my mind someplace else for a day.  I find I am invigorated, and ideas come easily.  If I do not have a break, everything is laboured.
It seems to me, so much is about balance.  I had a neighbour who was a truck driver.  He met his demise because his load of steel was not balanced.  I saw an Indian guru who did not cut the fingernails on one hand.  It supposedly made him holy. The nails were like a meter long and gnarly.  For me, the balance was missing.  It rendered the hand useless.  If someone exercising only works on their abs, they may have really impressive ones as long as disproportion does not matter. For me, I gotta have a break, even from what matters to me a lot.  If I do not reinvigorate or renew, then I get stale and my obsessiveness shows.
They reckon it is human instinct to let go of a load eventually.  For example, if I am holding a weight of 50kgs, I will let go.  I may not want to, but a reflex action of all of us, is to let go.  That is one of the reasons I find putting a load down for a while before taking it up again, matters to me.  I do not want my load to drop and break due to my inability to let go.
All the better if someone sees my 50kgs, and says they will take some of it.  It sure helps. I think it is one of the reasons we need each other.  Sure, I may have a task that I can do, but it helps to have someone alongside to help.
In thinking about businesses, they seem to be structured to enable the sharing of the load.  At QUT, there was the Finance Department, Human Resources etc.  The load was too much for one person, so roles were created, and a number of people got done what was needed.
We all can do with some help.  It seems to me, that to not admit it, is to potentially miss out on a lot, and to deny another.
