Little Things

I was unsure what to write about today, but someone said something that I totally feel.  They  said one of the saddest things in life is to meet someone at the end of their days full of regrets.  Full of “should have,” or “I wish I’d.”  Ideally, I reach the end of my days with phrases like “I am glad I” or “It was hard like I knew it would be, but I am glad I did.”
As I think I have indicated before I really do have this thing for older people.  I feel so many feel that life has passed them by.  That their best days are behind.  That opportunities have come and gone.
To me it does not matter the age.  What matters is making a start.  As is said “better late then never.”  While I have breath I have opportunity.
I cannot deny worlds shrink as a person ages, but shrinkage does not mean “too late for anything”.  It’s funny but this person said an adage I live by.  They commented that they had started to live life by what they could do rather than what they could not do.
I do like to read inspirational books.  But I read the second by an author after having read their first and they commented that they needed to emphasize it was important to be inspired to do good things.  That comment was inspired by someone who read their book and was inspired to attempt a prison breakout.  Doh.
Sometimes it is not obvious what the big thing to do is.  I am in that boat right now.  Yet my philosophy I think serves me well.  That is, “when I don’t know the big thing to do, do what is right”.
Anyone who knows me knows that showing love and kindness is important to me.  Maybe I will never be well known by many, but following this projection it is guaranteed I will be well known by a few.  To me it is the few I want to inspire for the good.  I do not know the impact a kind word or a loving act will have.  Maybe I will never be the one catapulted to fame.  But who knows maybe an act of kindness or love shown to another will catapult them to places I have never been.
What matters to me is I do what I know to do.  Maybe some road will become clear and maybe it won’t.  Doesn’t matter really.  As long as I do the little right things.  For me that is a good start, and who knows what it could lead to even at my age.
