Listening

​I admit I don’t necessarily like seeing it in others, and I am sure others do not get any pleasure seeing it in me. Being full of myself. Acting like a know all. As though I am the font of all knowledge.
As far as I am concerned it is ok knowing stuff. It is an attitude that goes with it that determines my receptivity at the time, or otherwise. I know I am far less inclined to follow advice when it is delivered by someone in hardness. When a principle is being espoused that may be right but the message is not delivered in love or with some sort of caring for me as an individual.
I do have trouble with that. I reckon someone stands a way better chance of influencing me for good if the message is delivered in a way I relate to without a sense of superiority from the one delivering the message.
A song I heard decades ago that has stuck with me has the words, “I’m not one who has it all in place telling you, what you should do, I’m just one ol hungry beggar showing you where I found food.”
That to me is what it is about. If it is right, I am not prideful but thankful. I am a big believer in seeing the fruit of something. I respond in my own way and in my own time to what is said that may ring a bell with me. But when it comes to the one who delivers the message, I am happy to wait and see if the actions match the words.
I do not think it is my job to set myself up or otherwise regarding the person. It is my job only to take on board or otherwise what gives me freedom without condemnation. I may want the best for another, but I have no desire to force my will or beliefs on another.
I reckon like me, everyone makes their own choices. No matter which way someone goes I reckon my job remains to love.
