Limitations

There is no doubt my life is very different from what it was.  Ok I am getting older but for all that is inev.., inevat…, vegetable…, that happens.  What I did not see coming was the stroke.  It really was a case of waking up and the world being different.
I notice here at Couran Cove if I have coffees in hand, I put each foot on each internal step.  Once upon a time I would have not thought twice about such a thing.  Now I think about it, and quiet literally take steps to accommodate the change.
I know though, that I have heaps to be thankful for.  It really could have been much worse.  A friend told of his wife’s mum who needed to be fed through a tube.   I still drive short distances.  It was funny to me how that transpired.  I was told it would cost $500 for me to get my licence back.  I then needed it, so I went to my doctor and after some tests it was granted back.  It cost me nothing.  I think I have mentioned it, but I said I thought I was better than some drivers, and he said the bar is not set high.
I was in the sea the other day and was amazed how disorienting the moving water was.  That was the first time since the stroke I have been in the sea.  Someone mentioned to me that it may be helpful to run on sand for practice.  Walking up a soft sand dune is hard at the best of times though.  The other day I had to do it and that was enough of a work out for me.  I am riding a two wheeler bicycle at the moment.  I tend to explore what is to the right.  I’ll admit, it is not the journey that matters to me now.  It is just getting there.
Something occurred to me today though that I had not thought of before, that I really like. It was “God is not limited by my limitations.”  I believe that.  I reckon He would be a pretty small God if my limitations limited Him.  To me, when I look at the universe and around me, the evidence suggests he is pretty powerful.  I sorta think that He can do stuff not because of my limitations, but despite my limitations.  The greater the problem, the greater the solution.
Someone asked “can God do the impossible?”  The inclination is certainly to say yes.  Their next question was “could God make a rock so big that not even He could move it?”  My inclination is to say “that’s impossible” but the comeback is “but you just said God could do the impossible.”  I reckon that is a good one.  My only thought on that is that God could do it, but would chose not to. I mean why would you?
He can work through me if He chooses to, despite my limitations.  After all, man’s extremity is God’s opportunity, and one day soon it will be different for me anyway.
