Light Bulbs

I had a light bulb moment.  I actually have plenty of light bulb moments when I get up in the dark.  This was a different sort of light bulb moment though.
I was thinking about differentiating between what is right or wrong for me.  I feel it matters that what I do is not a negative impact thing for others.  It is definitely right in my mind to sometimes say what someone does not want to hear, for their own safety.  But too often it seems to me, something is said, and love is not seen as the motive, and it drives away.  Often I feel it is best to say nothing and to love.
This is not something I just thought of today but is a matter I have been considering for quiet a while.  What I want to avoid is feeling something is wrong, or a “not go there” thing, just because it may have been the way I was brought up, or it is a rule imposed that does not stack up when investigated.
This morning I thought something is ok for me if it does not unnecessarily negatively impact on anyone (including myself), and it is not something I am only comfortable doing alone.
It got me thinking about the likes of closet drinkers and a number of other activities I and others may engage in which I would prefer to have absolutely no one know about (for the record I do not have a problem with closet drinking).  I was actually reminded of someone at their work who disguised their drinking problem but putting alcohol in coke.  The boss felt thirsty and took a swig and the person was sacked.
Anyway, one thing led to another for me which eventuated in my light bulb moment.  I am free to do anything, but not everything produces freedom.  Some things I know I am free to do, but I do not, because of the negative outcomes.  I could stick a metal object in a power point.  I am free to do that.  But why would I?  One thing I am pretty sure of is I would only do it once.
For me moral choices are similar.  I am free to do lots of things but why would I?  To me it is more than believing the latest “research.”  To me often the latest research is like saying it is ok to stick a metal object in a power point.  Just because something is the latest thinking does not mean it is right.
It is no wonder there are peer reviews of research.  But as I have mentioned before, sometimes that is flawed.   Reviewers often are not being paid, so do not care, and a submitter has their own agenda they are pushing.
But that really only has a tentative application to my dilemma.  I reckon I am free to do what I like.  My motivation means I choose to exclude doing some things but there is heaps I can and want to do.  Enough to keep me busy and happy.
But that does not solve another dilemma I have.  How come when I want to do what I think is the right thing I do not do it, yet I am so inclined to do the wrong thing when I really do not want to?
But for now a win is a win.  I am going to enjoy it.
Time to do something mundane.  Like sort containers.  I know this thought is just a step on my journey rather than the conclusion of it.
