Light

I get up super early.  Four am.  It has to be a body clock thing.  After a busy and strenuous day yesterday, I slept like a log.  I woke up at 3.59.  AM.  Not in the afternoon.  There is a brief time in summer when it is light at that time.  The sun is not shining but it is coming.  I guess not a lot of people see that time of day.  Most are more familiar with dusk.  Night is coming.  It’s inevitable.
Back when I worked, it was day or night.  Dusk I saw but did not give a second thought.  Mostly I had to eat and go out and then sleep.  Although I spent a lot of time on the computer at night too.  I always marveled how quickly the hours went by.
I like the transition from dark to light best - dawn.  I have the whole day ahead of me.  Being able to see keeps me from stumbling about.  I watch the forecast.  For last night it was dark gradually becoming light towards morning.  I could say the sky is the limit but unless I am on a flight that is too high.  Escalators, elevators and lifts help me attain new heights, but being on one is not guaranteed.
I don’t have a problem – not that one anyway, in the day.  Light gives clarity and I can tread confidently.  Unless I am walking through bush and then I am wary.  I came across a snake one time I was walking a path on a hill.  I ran away.  Trouble was it slithered away in the same direction.  We both headed down the hill together.
At least though I could see.  I know I lived to tell the tale.  I can only assume he did too.  For all I know though it slithered to a cliff and to late discovered the effect gravity was having and ended up in a river that took him to the sea where he was swallowed by a great white shark.  I just don’t know.  Highly unlikely, but it could happen.
If it were dark though that could have been me.  The first I would know is there was air where I expected there to be earth.  But of course if that were me it would have ended with me giving the great white a lesson he would never forget.
Darkness hides stuff.  Dark and alleys never seem to be a good combination.  Besides if I am to get anything done, I need light.  The wonders of electricity.  Or even a fire on a stick is better – as long as I am camping.  A fire on a stick would look silly in the house.  It would be inviting someone to turn the light on to see what was going on.  I would be inclined to hide the stick, but the consequences could be disastrous if something caught alight.  Having the house burn down would enable me to see, but it would not be the outcome I was looking for.
I would probably do better just to go to bed.  Sleep.  Per chance to dream.  Or has that been said already?  There is only one way to know who said it and when.  Now where is the bed light?
