Life as we know it

It seems to me we have it pretty good in this country. It is not perfect, and things need changing, but compared to many other places we are on clover.
We have pockets of poverty, elements of Big Brother, and some corruption.  Things need changing, but to worry about them excessively is to sweat the small stuff, compared to a lot that is happening in other places.  I would not like to live in a place where paying multitudes off, is necessary to get things done.
What I do like about here, is that when things need changing, they mostly can be.  In some places, if you want something changed, you are seen as an enemy of the state, and justice does not prevail.
It is one of the reasons I am gob smacked when I hear of people here, who see the only solution to their dilemma, is as permanent escape.  For sure here is not perfect, but in the scheme of things it is about as good as it gets. (I heard someone say if you are looking for a perfect anything, do not go there, as, with your arrival, it will no longer be perfect.)
But my answers can seem trite.   Issues are way complex, and while I believe principles are right, answers can be way more complex then I want to acknowledge.
There is a singing group I like called the “Patty Terry Group.”  There is no doubt their earlier albums were “nice,” but they have one called Humanity Gangsters.  It is way more cutting edge to me. In it, they have a song I think is called “Don’t take it so hard.” “…and I thought about the things I so easily say, and they sounded so empty and lifeless and dead, and there’s a war going on inside my head, and they want to know if there is life before death, and there is.  And a voice, keeps sounding in my head, saying, hey, don’t you take it so hard.”
Often my answers have never been tried in the crucible of experience.  It is not that I am unwilling to go there, but often I have never been there, so I don’t know.  I really like the thought about walking in someone’s shoes.  I can think I know, but until I get up close and personal, I really don’t know.
That is not to say something is unsolvable.  I do not believe it is, and my experience thus far has proved that. However, my job is only to do what I feel is mine to do.  Others are better in certain situations then I am.  They have to a point, walked in another’s shoes.
This was bourn out to me in Townsville.  I met a guy there I really could not relate to.  While I was friendly with him, he was different to me in so many ways.  I honestly wondered how he could change if he wanted to.  Sure enough he was transformed. Thankfully, he was not changed into my image, but into someone he really wanted to be.
Another song I love says “I’m not one who’s got it all in place, telling you, what you should do, I’m just one old hungry beggar, showing you where I found food.”  Now that, I can relate to.
