Let Me Think About That

"Your problems adjust to their true level of importance after a hard workout and a good night of sleep." James Clear.
I am not sure about the hard work out.  I joined a gym once and I reckon it was almost the perfect crime.  No one would have known it was murder.
But I am a great believer in not making a decision on some big things until I have had a chance to get a perspective on it.  What I feel at the time is not necessarily the response that is appropriate for the situation.  In my mind a lot of damage can be done by rushing into something without having a good think about it or being guided by emotions only.
Years ago I remember feeling blah.  The sort of territory I try to avoid decision making.  I decided a run was in order.  I went for a run and I could not believe the difference I felt.  What had seemed too much and a chore only seemed easy peasy and the way to go.
I totally believe the mind needs to be cleared at times.  Naturally there are times when there is no time and decisions need to be made on the spot.  It is motives that I examine at that point.  Is my motivation perhaps revenge or simply what’s in it for me?  To me situations should be reacted to based on the greatest good and an inner peace.
For me believing that self interest is not the highest form of motivation is not noble or heroic but sensible.  There are times when my actions may even be seen to be self-interest, but they are not self-interest only - it is knowing that a decision is for the good of the most.
Thankfully most people it seems see that and respond positively to me as a result – giving me help when I am in trouble.  A selfish person is a lonely person, while a giving person more naturally has friends in time of need.
It is one of the reasons why I reckon a clear head is important.  All decisions carry implications.  It is important the way I go.
