Unreal.  They reckon the volcano that exploded near Tonga was the equivalent of 1,000 Hiroshima atom bombs.  That is big.  At the time of writing this, communication had not been restored to the Island and what is known is the results of fly overs and a broadcast from the Prime minister of the country.
Though another report said it was the equivalent of 500 Hiroshima bombs.  Ok that is half, but seeing what one can do, whatever size it was, it was powerful.  The potential destruction could measure on the Richter scale.  Literally.   The loss of life could potentially be catastrophic.  It may have occurred in a remote location, but for the people near by the implications are real and life changing.
I reckon it would have started as a day like any other.  Doing what is planned for the day.  Maybe watching stuff on tv because the cricket had finished but the tennis had not started.  Oh that’s right.  They are not in Oz.  Doing whatever they do.
What is it to me anyway?  It was a long way away, and I was not personally affected?  Yet I do look at life through a lens.  I do not try to fit events into my way of thinking but examine ways of thinking and see if what is happening fits.
What is happening fits perfectly into what I have read about a time called “the beginning of sorrows.”  I don’t wish for it.  I don’t want it to happen.  But it is happening.  There have been heaps of events of late that seem to me to fit.
It seems bad things have been happening all over for as long as things have been recorded. But it seems bad things are happening now, not only in expected places, but unexpected to.  Once upon a time I would hear about people suffering in far off places.  Now I know people who have lost loved ones.
Like covid.  Worldwide - and it seems to be creeping closer and closer.  At first it was friends in lockdown as close contacts.  Now it is relations who have the disease.  Not to mention those overseas who have got it bad.  I mentioned before how one person we know was one of four that went into intensive care and were the only one to come out alive.
The ultimate take on sorrow to me is losing a loved one.  There seems to have been a lot of that.  Not just in remote places but close to home or home itself.  I reckon funeral parlours should be ordering a lot of stock, because as a business it seems to be doing really well.
Anyway, my take is I just need to be ready.  Bad things happen.  I am going to lose the lot.  That happens to all anyway.  Whether expectedly or unexpectedly.  The best I can do is choose the right lens to look through.
