Learning

A mate wanted to share a part of a book, but I did not feel the place he chose was the place to share it.  It was not that I did not think it should be shared but there were better forums.  I thought of a place and then realized they have resisted that forum with almost a religious zeal.  To me that is their right, but I could not help thinking they miss out as a result of it – and in this instance others do too.
That got me thinking about my world.  There is no doubt it will get smaller.  I think one of the hardest things must be when older people realize it is time to give up their licence.  To me, not being able to jump in the car and go afield must be hard.  I know it was when my dad gave up driving.  I was really glad when he did.  What sealed it for me was him making a turn about on a really wide street but still managing to head into a bush.
For myself I know my world will grow smaller but what I want to resist is making it smaller now un-necessarily.  There will come a time but until then I prefer to have as many irons in the fire as I can.
I have waged my own war against big corporations for no reason really but pig headedness.  In the end I decided it was pointless and I know I am the richer for it.  Now I embrace what I can.  Not for its own sake, but because I can use it and it expands my world.
There are a number of platforms that are right for me right now.  I need to be careful it is not just stubbornness that is keeping me from using something.  I feel if I allow that then the world may pass me by.  Something may require effort and be a learning curve but if that is what it takes me on a road that I am supposed to go down then so be it.  In that case growth will be on a number of levels.
I have said it a number of times and in a number of different ways, but I really believe when I stop learning I stop growing.  That does not mean every learning is a light bulb moment.  It sure was not at school.  Some things were a hard slog with realization dawning eventually.  When I got my Cert. 3 in Project Management I wanted to give up.  I found it hard.  I was discouraged from doing so and I was glad I stayed with it.  Eventually light dawned.
But it seems that often the harder something is to learn the more valuable it is.  Not that I want hard.  I do not ask for it.  But sometimes it is just that way.  But when it is, often I know I am on to something.
