Lazy Day

11/8/2019

Often I go to church on a Sunday morning but this morning I did not.    I have never regretted going to church though.   Never once have I thought, “man, why did I do that?”  However, I treated the day as it is more traditionally known.  A day of rest.
Boy did I rest.  I slept like I was in training for the sleep Olympics.  I did do one thing though.  I went to the shop and got milk.  That was so arduous.  I had to get into the car and sit in the passengers seat before the event.  Then I had to walk to the fridge that held the milk.   Yes, walk.  Unbelievable.  Not to mention then having to do it all again in reverse.  The car did not reverse all the way home.  That is just a figure of speech, declaring that once I had been to the shops, I had to go home again.  No wonder I slept.
I could have felt guilty when I though, about the busy day Merril had planned for herself.  She was going to work on the house she is selling.  As I say I could have felt guilty, but I saw through that one.  Thoughts of bed helped me.  Merril did not feel that well last night, but she is good today.  Talk about selfish.  Here I was all concerned for her, and it deprived me of sleep.  So not just one had trouble sleeping, but two.  I need all the beauty sleep I can get.  Although after 61 years it does not appear to have worked.  Won’t stop me trying though.
After having sat and watched Merril pack the car I was ready for a sleep.  We said goodbye and I waved her off.  My eyes were heavy.  I sat and did a few things on the computer but there was no disguising there was one place I needed to be.  Bed.
I got all snug and slept some, but a show was on that featured the person who is perhaps the last shepherd in Wales.   He was asked, “what is shepherding?”  He said, “shepherding is synonymous with caring.”  That seems to fit with everything I have seen on shepherds (always on tv).  They can be looking after a flock or a herd or a gaggle.  They care about whatever it is they are tending.  It does not seem to matter if they are in the middle east, Asia, or taking the herd up the mountain in Europe to feast on the summer pastures.
They all seem to know when one is missing.  They will ensure the ones they are looking after are safe, and then look for the one that is missing.  Without fail they are glad to find it.  Unless of course it has been torn to shreds by some wild beast.  They are not glad then.
They care when they have a genuine interest in what they are looking after.  If it is seen as just a job, then chances are they couldn’t care less.  Bit like some of the takeaways I have had really.  I tend to gauge how involved a server is, by what they present me with.  Some people give me something just slapped together.  I am looking for something a person would make for themselves.  When I get that, I am back again.
But this was disturbing my sleep.  Still, I knew enough was enough.  It was time to get up and have lunch, and then try again.
