Lantern

I spent some time in the garden this morning.  That really is not newsworthy or noteworthy except that it is.
Only because it is so long since I have done that.  Judging from my aches and pains I see why.  Still it was good to be out in the fresh air and the morning light.  I could have been out in the fresh air and morning light without going to so much trouble but maybe next time.
We will need to stop buying nick knacks.  We often visit a shop that seems to regularly turn over stuff.  It had solar lights that looked like a lantern.  It looks like a fire is going but it is not.  We had two but we wanted two more for the front yard.
We really have not had much success with small solar devices.  We bought four lights and now none work.  One never worked.  The others worked for a while.  What has really surprised us was a different sort in heavy shade that just kept on going.  Come to think of it though, I have not seen that one glowing for a while.
These lantern ones though can be weird.  For no reason at all, when not expected, they briefly burst to life.  It does not last though.  Just long enough to get our attention.  I need to wonder about Merril though.  She suggested she was going to warm herself near the fire of the lantern.  I just agreed and made a mental note.
The trouble with getting nick knacks is there is so much to do to make sure that when someone spots it and wants to visit, they don’t disappear for four days and we need to send out search parties.
I was making the place ok this morning so I could put out the lanterns.  We wanted to be able to see them from the kitchen, so I went there and checked the line of sight.  When I was satisfied, I put them in.  They did not go in as easily as I had hoped.  I started by making a hole with the big spanner.  That did not work so I went to a hoe.  I had my post hole digger at the ready.  Even when I did it right it still had a lean I was not happy with.  Maybe if all the world was on a lean it would have been right.  Bricks did the trick.  Stones would look better, but I have used them.
I looked the part though.  I had gloves, a hat and safety goggles.  I always shut my eyes putting on my safety goggles these days.  It seems so ironic but in the early days I poked myself in the eye with my safety goggles.
I only did a little bit of what I intended to do.  I discovered there was so much to do to get to that.  That is for another day.
