Kid's Shelter

30/9/2023

Yesterday turned out to be different to what I imagined, but in so many ways it was better.
We run a market from 9.30 to 11am.  We had decided we would do our regular cleaning after that.  We had packed several crates of stuff we had at home for sale.  We charge $2 for things that in reality are worth way more.  All proceeds are donated to a food pantry.  We did that and I had other stuff to do.
Turned out someone else had arrived to erect a kids shelter.  It needed erecting.  We were both working in the same area and I was ok doing a bit of what I had to do as long as it did not interfere with putting up the kids shelter.
It needed to be done, and I was not the one to do it.  I reckon I am a great TA but not being the brains behind what needs doing.   Besides, as I re-discovered, I am terrible on ladders these days.
So we did our market and cleaning then we stayed behind and assisted as we could in setting up the kids shelter.
Merril was probably more assistance to the fellow doing the work, but I kept one of his kids entertained.  We played heaps of hand ball.
Hand ball is so different from when I went to school.  I was the second best at our school at that.  Though I must admit I have trouble being the best loser.  I know I was because I made the final of the hand ball competition at our school and got beaten.
The guy that was better than me was good at everything.  Makes me sick.  Not really, but he was good.  His dad was a professor and his mum a doctor.  He ended up becoming an airline pilot.
Fair dinkum I remember being on go karts with him and him telling me he had worked out why smooth bitumen had more grip than the stony one used on highways to take in the water.  Here I was just concentrating on the go kart ride and there he was working out physics problems.  I reckon I was up against it.
Anyway Merril and I hung around while what was being done at height was done.
That turned out to be all day.  We had the footy on a tv and saw the Lions go down.  We looked at the tv between points.
It was a good day.  Both Merril and I were cactus by the end of it, but a good cactus.
