Keep it Simple

It’s funny but I have always thought that a simple answer is more desirable than a complex one.  Depending on the context.
For example, when I write (not that I could discus much that is complex) I prefer the simple over the complex.
My reasoning is this way.  If I chose to use say a complex word maybe 15% of people know what it means.  Whereas if I use a simple word or phrase, chances are 100% of people will know what I am talking about. That actually suites me as simple tends to be what I know.
In a sense I guess it is why I like to read and write children’s stories.  Simple is understandable whereas complex is anyone’s guess.  I think that is why I have appreciated the writing of C. S. Lewis so much.  I have found that he puts really hard things to explain, in such a way that I understand.
I can really pick hard and easy when reading.  At the moment, I am reading a book described as a good read.  It is not a novel but a walk through history.  I admit I am really enjoying it.  I feel it is written in such a way that the simplest to the most complex person could understand.
On the other hand I have a book by someone who is a professor at Cambridge.  His writing is like wading through a swamp.  What he has to say is in my opinion good, but I do not want to go there as it is such a hard slog to read.
I have always been for including the most rather than excluding the most.  Naturally the tone is dependant on the known audience.  I would sit in meetings of high powered people and not understand what they were taking about.  Their target was those of like mind, and although I tried to look intelligent, I was regularly lost.
To me a good read has always been about breaking down hard concepts and making them simple where possible.  I don’t mind re reading something to aid understanding, but I am not likely to go to a place I feel I am constantly having to re read something that, if put another way would be simple to understand from the start.
I may not be part of the 15% but I am definitely a part of the 100%.
