Boy was I glad to see the rain stop.  The weather has been such a roller coaster of late.  Storms the like of which I have never experienced before.  Heat that made me just want to escape from it.  Rain that just went on and on.
It was the rain that was getting to me.  It’s funny, but when I hear that when it rains people are reminded of what has happened in the past, I feel I can relate to that big time.
I know rain is good and it is needed.  But seeing as I have experienced flooding before my mind immediately goes to that scene when I hear torrential rain.  And did it rain.  I know we did not have as much as many places, but Merril and I have a rain gauge we check regularly.  One day there was 70 ml or almost three inches.  The next day there was almost 100 mil or four inches.
We went out to get take way from a drive through and the nearby creek which is intermittent and often has nothing in it had a sea of water.
Having lived near a place that flooded in the past, I keep an eye in the water level in the creek.  I watched it going up and up.  I had looked up the tide times (as they effect the water volumes) and saw that it was high tide not long after mid-day.  The river rose and rose but fortunately then the rain stopped soon after mid-day, and the river went down again.
Rain is necessary but can be seen as an inconvenience when it persists.  My neighbour works on an oil rig in Bass Straight.  He rang me from Melbourne to say he had arrived there in the same weather we were experiencing up here.  His flight was delayed due to inclement weather.  It was seeming like there was no escape.
It never ceases to amaze me how what is seen as a good thing initially, quickly becomes a point of complaint.  The thing is, because it seems to have become a famine or a feast and extremes are being experienced, I now really have something I could complain about.
