Just Do It

I was listening to a guy talking about the things they learned during the pandemic. I was so interested to hear that at the beginning of the lock downs with no real going out, he and his wife were a lot like me.
On a personal level it was an excuse to do nothing. At the start they were excited by the thought there was no real commitment. What they could not understand was they found doing nothing more tiring than doing something. At the end of the day, they would be tireder from doing nothing then they would normally be from doing heaps.
It was something the guy said then that rang a bell with me. Not because it was something I did during lock downs but because it was something both Merril and I did independently of each other on the same day - before this was said.
One of the things he and his wife did to combat the inertia was to do “the next right thing.” That is, when I do not know what to do, do what I know to do.
As I say one of the reasons I found this so timely is that both Merril and I were doing it at the same time independently of each other. We both had different activities we wanted to avoid and had decided the best way was to do things was to do what we knew to do.
What I found amazing was how well it worked and how quickly the time passed by.
For me that is a concept I really like and continue. There are things I know to do and want to do because whether I get a kick out of them at the time or not, they do me good. Or at the very least help me to get done what I need to get done.
I learned something from what the person learned. I like that.
