I've looked at life from both sides now.

I heard something the other day I had never heard before, but it seems many have.  It is something said by a Dr Wayne Dyer. “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
So I looked up what people had to say abut it.  Something I read that rang true with me was “What we see might be the same but what we perceive is very different for every person.”  It is incredible how people witness an event and when asked about it they saw different things.  Same event, different things seen.
But the whole point to me about changing how I look at something.  Having the things I look at change is I think an incredible opportunity to get a different perspective on what is on face value bad.  The way people see things is one of the differences between those who succeed and those who live lives that are considered less than successful.
For me it is all about changing the way I see things.  For me easier said than done, but is so often incredibly worth it.  I does seem to tie in closely with what I look at as replacement.  As I have said on other occasions.
Sorta like what I experienced recently on holidays.  I have never been good with heights but what I experienced one night was a totally unreasonable fear.  I retreated from the balcony and shut the door.  Yet I knew that made my world smaller to give in to fear like I did.  So I changed the way I looked at things.  I replaced the unreasonable fear I experienced with words of encouragement like “God has not given me the spirit of fear” and “what can separate me from God height, depth…?”  Things I had read in a source I trust.
Anyway long story short, I was able to use the balcony again without the un-natural fear I had had.  Every time I headed in the direction that had caused me to retreat so hurriedly, I replaced the fear with the encouragement. It worked real well.
My experience is the saying is true.  I imagine it is true in a number of situations.  Who knows?  I just know it works for me each time.
The way I look at things is not necessarily the only way or the best way.  I am also big on determining if my perception is the way best for me by what it produces.  Fear is inhibiting.  If I had settled for that being the way it should be my world would have gotten unreasonably smaller.  I also know the effect it had on me was a constraint that limited possibilities.
For me looking at things differently made a difference.  The things I looked at changed as my perception changed.
