It's a Date

​There was a time when video’s first came out it was thought they marked the death of society as we knew it.  There would be no more gathering together - as everyone would be inside watching videos.
Turns out they need not have worried.  What is commonly called the herding mentality was alive and well.  We all enjoyed the novelties of the video, but we wanted to get together more.  For most they became a part of life rather than life itself.
It seems to me the pandemic did much the same thing.  We were locked away and not allowed to mingle.  There seemed to be a universal cry.  A desire to be able to get together.  A sense of relief when we were able to.
For sure things had changed.  More were able to work from home.  Work became less about where it was done as long as it was done.  Some rejoiced at being free to work from home.
I had done a bit of it, and while I enjoyed it occasionally, I wanted to be able to get together regularly with others in the work environment.  Besides, when I worked from home, I tended to work longer hours.  Travel time was eliminated and became work time along with normal work time.
It did bring sharply into focus that I am a social being.  I need people.  I am stimulated by relating to others.  It is not a one size fits all thing.  Some enjoyed isolation, and it was their default position whether enforced or not.
But it seems most (and I am one of them), enjoy others company.  It seems it goes deeper, and I need others company.  It is the way I am wired.
They say no man is an island.  I know I can try to be.  But I am an island with no trees.  Or maybe an island without water.  Whatever it is I am someone who needs what others have.  As an individual I bring some things to the table, but not everything. I know with others I have all I need.
