Is It a Bird?

I think the birds are liking all this rain.  I get up early and it is raining.  The day may dawn fine but right now it is not.  One thing though is there is plenty of water about for the birds.
I have managed to fend off several that I do not want here.  There is an Ibis that has attempted to visit a few times.   It is nothing personal I have against Ibis or Magpies, but I do not want to see other species disappear and they take over.
When I went out into the yard trying to make myself look big and threatening the Ibis took off.  Normally to the top of the shed.  Not far enough away.  I would hit the side of the shed making a noise and he would fly further away.  Originally, he would not go far and come back but I would be waiting for him.  This happened a few times and I do not see him anymore.
Same with the Magpie.  There is no doubt they have a beautiful song, but I really do not want such a dominant predator here.  He looks so surprised I do not want him.  No bird allows me to get as close before it moves.  But move it does.  Initially I had some tree offcuts so when he flew up into a tree, I had something large in hand that chased him away.  To the fence where I did the same thing.
I have had to be more persistent with him, but I do not see him often these days.  Last time I saw him though I did not have a tree branch, so I used a broom.  It lodged up in the tree.  I did manage to get it back but fortunately I think he has gotten the hint.
We have certain birds that visit us every day.  I like them.  We used to see a lot of Crested Pigeons but not now.  We did have a visit from one the other day. They make a distinct sound when they fly so we can tell what sort of bird it is without seeing it.
The birds keep us entertained and we probably do the same for them.  But in the end we know a birds gotta do what a birds gotta do.  It is just hustling up a living like the rest of us.  Still, there is no doubt we enjoy each other’s company.
