I reckon being dogmatic can get me into all sorts of trouble.  I tend to stick with what I have proven, but I will never pretend that what I know is all there is to know.  What I know may only be part of the story.
It seems any science is the same.  Foundations are built upon.  Further knowledge does not negate the foundation, but adds to it.  My observation is that some folk get stuck on a truism.  It is so easy to stand on something, and to dismiss anything further as if it is a threat.  I believe that truth can not only stand enquiry, but welcomes it.
I was trying to sound deep and meaningful there, because what I have been thinking about is really every day, but for me it is built on the above.
I have a practice, but if it doesn’t happen it is not the end of the world for me.  My thinking is, something needs to be available to use for its intended use.  I have seen and practiced the opposite in many situations, but it is not my modus operandi.   Why is there no red line under modus operandi?  I so expected that to be spelt wrong.
I have forgotten what the talk was titled, but I went to one on maintaining a tidy work place.  Their recommendation was that all aids have a home that is not observable.  That is, staplers and hole punches and rulers and the like have a home in a draw.  I did it, and my place looked incredibly clean.
Of course this can be counter-productive.  I can look like I have nothing to do.  By the same token, someone can have papers and things all over their desk, and look really busy, to the point of not asking them to do anything.
A chair is made for humans to sit on.  To me it is not made for stuff to sit on.  Of course, there are exceptions.  If there are heaps of chairs and very few people, there is a good chance stuff can be put on a chair.  How ever more than once, I have needed to move stuff in order to be able to sit next to someone and talk to them.  Likewise, my desk cannot be used as a desk if it has stuff on it.  I try to keep it clear so I can use it as a desk.  I say try, because sometimes a blitz is needed.  To me, stuff is anything that keeps something from being used for its intended use.
This will probably sound really petty, but I do try to go by a practice that works for me.  I am happy to spread myself out at my desk as long as at the end of the day I clear it and it can be used as a desk again, perhaps for another purpose.  If my stuff from yesterday is there, then I can use it for no other purpose without first clearing away my stuff.
Sounds pedantic, but it works for me.
