Insupportable

Merril did the “pick a word from the dictionary” thing this time. For me it is a bit of a Russian Roulette thing. I have no idea what is coming. It can be really hard and involve some research to have any idea. It can be something I never heard of. Or it can be like today, a word I have heard of but never used. “Insupportable”. I don’t even know I would have said it right. I probably would have said unsupportable.

I do know insupportable is something I try to avoid. But having said that I reckon I would have blind spots. It is pretty embarrassing. Actually it is very embarrassing to declare something only to have everyone contradict it. Like it is “everyone knows that.” Everyone except me it seems.

Mostly such things are minor. I may have a date wrong. Or a fact I hold to that is not right. Like I found out yesterday ants do sleep. I am only 65 and have thought all my life that ants did not sleep. But I found out yesterday such a stance is insupportable. And birds sleep too.

I know Google is a good thing but I am still getting over this “instant correction” thing.

But I really do prefer to know than to assume. I have just been reading the traits of a teacher. They are big on facts. They are big on research. They are big on getting to the bottom of a matter before declaring it to be so.

I know I have a bit of that. Especially when it comes to putting something out there. I am big on finding out things for myself, rather than declaring something to be so because everyone else seems to be declaring such.

For some it seems to be a case of not letting the truth get in the way of a good story. I guess it is one of the reasons I have so much trouble with guilt being implied these days without a fair trial. I may begrudgingly admit something is so, but I am very much an “innocent until proven guilty person” rather than the other way around.

To me taking a stand is a good thing. But good chance I will be left with egg on my face if I take a stand on something that is insupportable.
