Inspiration

Inspiration is so fickle. It can come from the most unexpected places. I saw an interview with Paul Kelly. He was down the pub one day and overheard a conversation. One guy said to another “I’ve done all the dumb things.” Paul was inspired and went home and wrote a song about it. To me “I’ve done all the dumb things” is a great song. I have it on my playlist.
They say life is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration. I am unsure of those figures. It could be 84/16 or 89/11 for all I know. I do know though that inspiration is great, but it is always followed by work.
They reckon the engines that pull the coal trains are like 100 tons (that figure may be wrong). The point is though, they are as large as they are to get the train going. The rest is a breeze.
Speaking of breeze I used to crew a Cobra catamaran. There were two of us on board. My job was to control the jib and stand on the hull parallel to the water. That was to provide weight. I did not provide much weight, but I did my bit. That was incredibly exhilarating. Especially the time a cyclone was going down the coast. Man did we motor down wind. It was great until we ploughed into the back of a wave and I (attached to a line) went around the front of the boat 180 degrees. It was a good view, but only momentarily.
The thing was, no matter the conditions, we often needed to make adjustments or course corrections when sailing. That is easy when moving. It is much harder when trying to start.
How they start seems to matter with many vehicles. Often a selling point is 0 to 60 K’s in however many seconds. When cars are lined up on the grid and no matter where on the grid they are, the start is really important.
For me, the hardest part of a task is getting started. Making adjustments is the easy part. It does not matter if I am dealing with a spreadsheet or writing. I always alter things after I have started. There are always those who question what I am doing and try to dissuade me. What matters to me is I go for it. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. I may be inspired but there is work to do!
It is a real first world thing, but I have been inspired with my stamp collecting, but much remains to be done that is work. It is more organized than many I have seen, but I am sure it is not as organized as some.
It can seem a bit like fiddling while Rome burns, but I do believe that if I do what I can, I need to keep growing.
