Inspiration

Talk about inspiring.  I had forgotten Martin Luther King Jr. said, “I’ve been to the mountaintop…And I’ve seen the promised land.”  I forget a lot.  The thing is, I can hear him say it.  I can feel it.  It was not said like it was read from a script.  It was from the heart.
They reckon life is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration.  I am unsure of those percentages.  It may be 86% and 14% or 79% and 21%.  What has been true for me though, is that I get inspired, and then it is hard work.  There are bits of inspiration mingled in that keeps me well, inspired.
It seems it is like that for everyone.  I am very much a “feet on the ground” person.  Something that has been a guiding principle for me is “spiritually natural and naturally spiritual.”  The last thing I want is to be “so heavenly minded he is no earthly good.”
For me, the mix has to be right.  It is a work in progress.  For some it seems it is all one or the other.  I have heard people talk and I have had so much trouble relating to what they say.  Generally, they are not talking about a difficult scientific problem, (if it is, I am so not the person to talk to) or the chemical composition of Ethiopian quartz.  There may be snippets that are great, but there is a lot of other stuff.  Others probably find what I say the same.
Since my stroke I am very much a quality person, rather than a quantity person.  I try to find ways to say in five minutes what I may have taken 40 minutes to say once.  Still, even small talk, I try to make inspirational if I can.  For me it is very much about building another person up rather than pulling them down.  There is enough of that, so I am not needed.
I remember reading a book.  I was enjoying it.  I came to a section and though this writer is really inspired.  What had been good, became great.  I guess it is like that with what I say.  Sometimes things are merely an exchange of information.  At other times, what is said, strikes a really positive chord, and can be life changing.  Mostly it is not like that though.
It is probably like waves.  When I was bodysurfing I would wait for the sets.  Many waves are what was expected.  Wait a while and a bigger set would come through.  Those are the ones I would try to ride.  I remember catching two waves on the Gold Coast.  I had to go out a fair way to get them.  It was so worth it.  I rode them into the shore.  I was exhausted and exhilarated.
I want what I say to contain some of those sets.  Worth the wait.
