Inflammation

I suppose it helps to look and see what the word really is.  I had one of Merril’s sisters pick the word this time.  I really thought it was a derivative of inflame I had never heard of.  It really begs the question I often ask, “if something is spelled incorrectly in the dictionary how would I know?”  I wondered if it was all some big conspiracy, I had gotten myself caught up in.
But no.  I did not look properly.  It was “inflammation”.  “Inflaming condition of part of the body with heat, swelling, redness and usually pain.  Reaction to injury or infection.”   Wikipedia put it this way “Inflammation (from Latin: inflammatio) is part of the complex biological response of body tissues to harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants, and is a protective response involving immune cells, blood vessels, and molecular mediators. The function of inflammation is to eliminate the initial cause of cell injury, clear out necrotic cells and tissues damaged from the original insult and the inflammatory process, and initiate tissue repair.”  Yeah.  Like I would have said if I knew what I was talking about.
It is something I have experienced.  So often these days it is a look only to see redness and swelling and thinking “when the heck did I do that?”
Often though I clean it up.  Which reminds me of another question, “Why is it so often good guys have an incredible fight only to wince when a woman applies some sort of healing balm?”
But my wife looks after me too.  I do object though to paying $50 a time for a consultation.  Still I would pay the $50 a time just to see her.  But don’t tell her that.
Most of my inflammation is from old war wounds.  Cept I have never been to war so that is a complete fabrication.  This is true though, most inflammation I experience is from gardening.  I get got.  I am incredibly careful, but it seems stuff is incredibly careful to get me where I can be got.
It is probably good I cannot see what is going on once I have cleaned it and put a band aide on it.  It can be hot and itchy, but I always assume that is a part of the healing process.  So far thankfully that has been right.
Inflammatory can also be used as in inflammatory words.  I know a couple of people that seem to deliberately say inflammatory words to a group and see what comes out of it.  We always seem to fall for it hook line and sinker.  It is though a good way to determine what I do not stand for.
An inflamed wound always needs to be cleaned out.  Active agents to assist immune cells in the fight are also helpful.  I had an infection one time that landed me in hospital.  It was on the march.  I reckon it would have got me apart from a specialist recognising it and recommending stuff to deal with it.  I did what he suggested and it was all good.
Something inflamed can seem all bad but at best it highlights a problem that needs dealing with.  It is dealt with, and I move on.
