Infant

I have not done this for ages, and maybe this is why.  Merril picked a word at random from the dictionary.  “Infant” was the word she chose.
But of course, I have vast experience with infants - NOT.  I can really only relate to the fact that I was an infant once.
I did hold a baby once and I remember the mother looking at me and sensing my discomfort and taking the child back.  At least I have not put my foot in it like a mate of mine did.  He was talking to a big lady who had been pregnant.  He asked when the baby was due, and she pointed to the baby.  I did freak mum out telling her I remembered being born.  I did set the record straight in that I did not remember that.
I have to take people’s word for it when they tell me what happened when I was an infant.  Apparently the spirit of adventure has been with me from birth.  Wandering off from home and the police finding me and bringing me back.  I do not remember that, but I am told it happened.
I do remember having my tonsils out though.  It was so humiliating.  From memory there were three of us to have the procedure done.  I was the only one put in a cot.  The other guys were put in bed.  I remember making friends with these guys but oh the indignity.  I do not remember them even being aware that they felt my humiliation.  But I do remember feeling it.
But I admit that was soon forgotten.  I do not remember having the procedure, but I do remember getting an ice-cream after the event.  An ice-cream maked up for a lot.
I was taught to swim by Lawrie Lawrence.  He bought me an ice-cream too.  The occasion was the swimming of my first width.  It was momentous.  Did not make the papers or anything but it was a big one for me.
I do not know I was real good though.  I would swim with my eyes closed.  In training that was ok.  But one time by myself I did not realize I had turned and was heading down the pool.  There came a time where I thought “I really should have made it by now.”  So I opened my eyes.  Just in time to join a scenario of some “big people” having someone on their backs and fighting each other.  I opened my eyes just in time to have someone land in the water near me.  I coughed and spluttered and was carried to the side by one of the “big people.”   I learned embarrassment at a young age.
Still, being an infant in my home was not bad.  There were adventures to be had and while the scale may have been small, they were my whole world.
