What gets up my nose is probably many things while I am asleep. They reckon we swallow a lot of stuff while sleeping. I tend to believe that as a friend of mine woke up one time with a big spider half in and half out of his mouth. But I won’t go there. Never mind I just did. Not anymore. That is the last you’ll hear from me about a big spider being half in and half out of someone’s mouth. It is a closed book. Spiders being half in and half out someone’s mouth is finished.
I guess I have gone down the path I have as I was considering how often people make out they are Teflon Man (or Woman for that matter). I must admit I had to look up why we say “Teflon Man.” It seems to be basically a bullet proof fellow. Someone larger than life who always does the right thing and others admire.
I want to do the right thing and be admired. I know I am admired by at least one person – I just need to look in the mirror. I have learned that in public places it’s probably best I do not appear as a blubbering idiot. That tends to drive people away.
What I do have a problem with though is people making out they have it all together when in fact no one does. I knew someone who said “after all this is over I’m going to have a nervous breakdown.” And they did! They ended up in hospital.
To achieve anything, I cannot concentrate on inadequacies. The human race has progressed to where it is today because inadequacies were put aside to achieve amazing things. I am pleased about that. I enjoy our home because of it.
Yet that is not all there is and to pretend otherwise is to lie to myself. Sometimes my inadequacies are very much on public display. I have heard it said that “most men get promoted to the level of their incompetence.” Doing the same same is fairly easy.
It seems to be when I am out of my comfort zone I am found out. In that case it is pretty hard to wing it. Though I have found that when someone asks something and I do not know the answer, if I answer with authority they often think I do. They don’t know and they don’t know that I don’t know. I didn’t know someone’s name one time and I asked my boss. They said something like “Michael.” Their name was not “Michael” and he knew it. After I had been with them, my boss was keen to know if I called them Michael. He was very disappointed when I said I had not called them by name.
I can sound like a broken record sometimes, or one with a scratch any way. A group I was listening to today sang “I still believe in us together.” I like that. We so need one another.
There is a time for us to do things on our own, but there are many times we need each other. It is like we are a part of a 360 degree circle. We might be 180 degrees. We are incomplete without the other 180 degrees. That can be one or many. It does not matter. We all need each other.
This Teflon Man (or Woman) – person. This Teflon Person thing though is a dream. It is best I deal with it and move on.
