Implications

There is an ad. for a show on the ABC at the moment.  I do not know what the show is about but I do know there is a lady who says something like, “the politicians do not have the power, we do.”
I know there is at least a measure of truth in that from what I see on the ABC.  Last year I missed a heap of shows because everything was daylight saving time.  If I knew a show was on at 8, I would miss it because 8 was an hour earlier daylight-saving time.  I gave up.  I reckon a lot of people must have.  It seems ratings determine actions.  I reckon their ratings would have suffered big time so they have gone back to what is expected.
Sometimes I just do not care.  The NRL hold their final at 8 of an evening now.  It is a ratings thing.  People have embraced it because it really does not matter.
I feel the same with stuff I do.  Some things matter and many do not.  Many times I am told what to think.  But I am like “hang on a minute…”  I am not willing to embrace what I am being encouraged to embrace.
Many times what I am being encouraged to embrace has wider ramifications than I am led to believe.  Newtons law stating that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction may be true of inanimate objects, but it is not true for me or anyone else.
So much I face has implications that go beyond just me or one other.  It is futile saying “what’s the point,” or “the worst that can happen.”  So often I do not really know.  I may think that my actions either good or bad have limited effect, but really I do not know.
I doubt some of the Greek philosophers knew their words would live on a few thousand years later.  They were writing for their audience at that time, and here we are thousands of years later examining what was said.
In the same way what I do can have implications way beyond what I imagine.  One act of kindness may affect just one, but it may affect many.  The receiver may treat their family better as a result.  They in turn may exhibit a positive attitude instead of a negative one.  Others may see that and be encouraged and do something good they may not have attempted.
What I do does matter.  One act could have influence worldwide.  I just do not know.  It is never safe for me to assume or believe that it does not matter.  It does.  To me and to others.
