Impact

I talk about it a lot.  I guess it is my bent.  It is not true that I can’t help it, but the truth is I don’t want to help it.  It is just there.  Something that makes me tick.  I read something that was totally unexpected, but it stuck with me. “…the impact of their less than famous lives.”
I relate to that big time.  We watched Australian Story on Monday night.  It was about Lisa Curry Kenny.  In her time, she was really famous.  She was on heaps of magazine covers.  That was even more so when she linked up with Grant Kenny.
They were famous for Australians.  I knew them, even though I did not know them.  It is a different story for me though.  I am known through work, sport and church and perhaps in a few other areas.  But I could hardly be called famous.  I may be famous in my own lunch box, but lots have way bigger lunch boxes than me.
For me that is where the phrase “the impact of their less than famous lives” comes in.  I may not have the impact of some but that does not mean I do not have an impact.  The world is full of less than famous people.  Collectively, all have an impact.
I guess that is where choice comes in.  Will the impact I have be good or bad?  For everyone I know it is a mixture.  Some impacts are predominantly good while others are predominantly bad.  It is true in my mind that there is good in bad people and bad in good people.  Some are content to wreak havoc, yet they may be incredibly protective and loving of their kids (I have heard of drug lords in central America being like that.)  Others do incredible good, yet miss it in one area, and it has wide ranging implications.
That is one of the reasons why I am big on not setting myself up.  I may think I could never do something but cannot say really until tested.  Someone may be vehemently opposed to louting (like I see in American riots) but confronted with an open store with tv’s.  To me, that is the time it becomes obvious if the principle is a strongly held internal principle or one held to as it is imposed but discarded when opportunity arises.  
That is what comes to mind but there would be heaps of other cases.  The point for me is impact.  My actions impact myself and others.  Maybe the impact of my actions only causes a small ripple, but every action causes a ripple.  If that is true of everyone, that is a lot of ripples.
I want the impact of my life to be good, and I am not ashamed to ask for help.
