I Need That

I heard about a guy that was going climbing a steep mountain with a group and guide.  The guide had said it will be hard and it is best you only take what is necessary.    This guy had his own ideas though.  He wanted to take pictures of himself on the mountain top with a bottle of his favourite wine and cheese.  So he took that with him.
The climb got hard, and he fell behind.  Eventually the guide said you are best to leave that stuff.  He would not though.  So instead of continuing the climb he stopped and took pictures of himself on the mountain.  Not at the top but where he was.
Merril and I laugh at the thought of the scene in the movie “The Jerk” where the hero had lost everything and was relegated to the streets.  On his way out of the house he was saying “I don’t need that” but saying what he did need was a lamp he saw.  We thought he so did not need that.
I remember very little about the movie the Labyrinth with Davie Bowie but I do remember the scene where someone had to go on a journey and they were carrying so much that weighed them down.
I guess I think about those things as there can be so much that will keep me back from my potential.  Not that many things are not ok in themselves, it is just they are inappropriate for the task at hand.  Like needing a lamp in the Jerk.  Good to have in some circumstances but not good for living on the street where there is mostly no access to power.
It is up to me to determine what is appropriate for me.  Things that will hold me back from achieving my aim are best to go.  If I hold on to stuff that only weighs me down, I could end up like the mountain climber.  Not achieving my goal and settling for less than I set out to achieve.
