I Can

I Can
 
I cannot feed a multitude, for more than but a moment
Or provide for all with more than hungry eyes
I can’t avoid the many wars - those within and those without
Or say good-bye to saying long good-byes
 
I cannot end the poor from providing stark reminders
Or provide for all the things a man may need
I cannot keep alive one determined to depart
Or alone supply the hope on which to feed
 
I cannot bring together, hearts determinedly apart
Or fix one broken life and make it whole
I cannot keep the tide from going out, or rising
Or stop the sun from keeping to its roll
 
What I cannot do could be overwhelming
But its who I know, not what I know, that counts
Though I am only one, and I know there’s oh so many
Confidence contagious - when I am full of doubts
 
So I’ll walk within their footsteps.  I know they have good plans
And fight the fight with all my might, knowing they are in the stands
Then when it is all over, and it’s time for heading home
There’s one who will go with me - I’ll never walk alone.
